AVARICE

February 2015

Who decides what value is?

Why is art worth more than the sum of its parts?

Avarice is an artwork consisting of a £50 note being offered for sale for half of it's current face value. The work performs on many levels, it allows someone, upon purchase, to instantly double their money. However the purchaser could gamble, allow inflation to erode the currency and due to the artworks place in history, watch the value of the art piece soar. Either way the purchaser shows us the covetousness nature of a capitalist run society.
